Veldman’s work explores the complex bond between people and everyday objects, examining their symbolic meanings and historical evolution. Through this lens, he reinvents these items, transforming their essence and deepening their significance.In CASTING MIRRORS 2023, Veldman investigates the impact of mirrors on human self-perception, asking: What is the true cost of reflection? What does it truly take to look ourselves in the eye—not in terms of price, but in effort? Inspired by the earliest mirrors crafted from volcanic obsidian, he gathered discarded aluminum from streets and scrapyards, transforming these overlooked metals through melting, casting, machining, and polishing.
In his latest series PANORAMA 2024, Veldman extends this reflection, capturing the diversity of human perspective on the horizon. Each piece varies in length, representing how our gazes differ—some wide, others focused. As an artist, Veldman seeks to define and capture these unique perspectives.
