Perla KRAUZE

1953, Mexico City, A multidisciplinary artist known for her work as a sculptor and painter. Krauze works with a wide range of materials like stone, cloth, metal, wood and water. Paint and graphite tracings extracted from stone and volcanic rock carvings, repurposed in various installations and creations, transform into abstract mappings and topographical representations. This process carries the recollections from one place, artwork, or moment to another.

Stone is a fundamental material in Krauze's practice, linked to memory and durability, it can also be transformed and eroded. Krauze alters and arranges stones to make miniature landscapes, complete in themselves but still referencing their origins. In life sized installations, creating paths in nature or architecture, her interventions communicate with the present context. Using water and lead containers, reflections of the surrounding become part of the artworks, in a play of shadows and colours.
